Thanks to Missjubie! I've just made this modified version of 楊枝金露 with orange after reading her website http://missjubie.mysinablog.com/index.php?op=ViewArticle&articleId=1278977. I use less orange as I think the taste of orange is stronger than grapefruit. The result is OK. I still got some stock in the fridge.

house warming and eternity

At last had house warming with friends. We had a wonderful time together, singing and having good food to our hearts' content. Thank God for the precious moments! Life is short,
soon these happy times shall become our memory. Our youth and vitality will no longer last, however, we have new hope as Christians.

Watoto Children's Choir

Last night I went to a concert with my sister. It was given by a group of children from Africa living in a ministry called Watoto's village. They were the orphans of Aids patients. Although they live in a poor country, they are fatherless and motherless, they are surrounded by wars and terrors, there is hope brought to them by Christ's love. Their song is full of energy and joy. We dance and sing with them and shared their vision. I like to listen to them speaking, in a special accent. They showed confidence and clearly express themselves. There is a part when the children told us one by one their dreams. Many of them hope to become doctors, pilots, teacher

Meditation on Jesus

Just before Jesus went for crucification,
he goes to a place called Kesimany with
his 3 disciples, John, James and Peter to
pray. There he meditates what is going to
happened to him and his heart is filled
with anguish and anxiety. Sweat come down
from his head and he frowns hard in pain,
yet he pray to God that His will be done
on him. His 3 disciples began to doze into
sleep while praying. Jesus come to them 3
times and see that they cannot keep their
eyes open. Though he know that they shall
betray and desert Him soon, he still asked
them gently to keep awake and pray with
him. After that He knows that the time for His
biggest mission on earth has come and He
accepted it with peace. The excessive
demand in work from time to time due to my
limitations and weakness cause me a lot of
anguish and anxiety too. To me, the stress
of work,family, interpersonal conflicts is
the cross I need to bear now. The disciple
respond to Jesus's situation with praying
.However, their flesh is weak and they
frequently cannot resist from dozing off.
So how are we able to get close to Jesus
in order to know Him and walk with him? My
interpretation is that We need to continue
to bear the cross with our best effort and
pray for each other.

Flower exhibition in Victoria park

This year's theme flower is Geranium. There are many different stalls. One particular spot exhibits herbal medicine that are possibly useful for treating cancer. A lot of space is used for artistic exhibitions. I stopped in one station where there are many cactus. Some are very chubby indeed. Most of the cactus is put in pot with pebbles . One pot of cactus looks like a piece of tumor . Another one is like being cut out from stone. I also saw a peculiar plant which can eat insects. It grow on tree trunks and need to be showered often.

twelve steps towards abstinence

1.we admitted we were powerless over addiction, that our lives had become unmanageable.
2 came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity
3. make a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him
4. make a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves
5.admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs
6. were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character
7. humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
8. make a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
9made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others
10 continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
11.Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
12Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of the steps, we tried to carry this message to addicts and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

meditation

Come and fill me up
(by Sandy Yu)

I humbly come to seek Your face,
come and fill me up,
come fill me up.
I long for Your dwelling place,
cleanse me from my sin,
come fill me up.

Jesus, my Lord, Jesus, my King,
Your precious blood washes me.
Jesus, my joy; Jesus my peace.
Grace flows down and covers me.

reading

Got loads of paper to read now. Really don't know how the writer is able write such a long paper, each 9-10 pages! Is it cost-effective to write such a long essay in order to convey a short message? How "cruel" it is to write more than 4 pages in an article! Protest! Protest! Well, just kidding. Work is work, still need to spare time for the reading. Dear Good Lord, please grant me patience to finish the work.

rosemary

I 've got a bottle of rosemary which I do not know how to use. Just thinking of throwing it way. Out of curiosity, I search the internet and found the following information:

Rosemary has a very old reputation for improving memory, and has been used as a symbol for remembrance (as in worn during weddings, war commemorations and funerals) in Europe, probably as a result of this reputation. Students in ancient Greece are reported to have worn sprigs of rosemary in their hair while studying for exams to improve their memory, and mourners would throw it into graves as a symbol of remembrance for the dead. In Shakespeare's Hamlet, Ophelia says, "There's rosemary, that's for remembrance".
Rosemary and its constituents carnosol and ursolic acid have been shown to inhibit the growth of skin tumors and to provide a natural anti-oxidant protection against skin cancer and photodamage. [citation needed]Don Quixote (Chapter XVII, 1st volume) mixes it in its recipe of the miraculous balm of Fierabras with revolting results.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosemary

Is this true? Well there is two thing I learn from this : 1.the behaviour of Greece is quite similar to Japanese who also wear a cloth on their head when they prepare for examination. 2.I can keep the bottle

Miss Pullinger's Testimony

Just finished reading a book by Miss Pullinger about her life in Hong Kong. In the book, she decribed in detailed about a group of drug addicts living in Kowloon City and how Jesus’ salvation bring new life to them. It took me some time to finish it and it really give me joy and encouragement to read the amazing story of God’s work. Their story of transformation attracts me and I can see Christ’s light shone through these people who were thought to be stayed in darkness throughout their life which were miserably controlled by drug, violence, hatred and sorrow.

Miss Pullinger was born in America and had always wanted to be a preacher since her childhood. She come to Hong Kong by herself one day without much planning. Actually when she arrived in this little island, she had very few money in her pockets. But her faith keeps her in this strange place and she started her work in the most dangerous area of Hong Kong – the Kowloon City –where triads, prostitutes, robbers, the most unwanted peoples of the society stay. Her love and care to the drug addicts bring hope to them. She started telling them about the story of Jesus Christ and miracles happened one by one. A lot of them were able to abstain from drugs through prayers and start a completely new life. These teenagers was able to hold fast to Jesus’ promise and their change in turn affects their friends and the community of transformed youngster started to grow. They gather at night in Miss Pullinger’s place, singing , praying and having fun. They even had different kinds of classes, though most of these class cannot last long.

Throughout the years Miss Pullinger stayed in Kowloon city, homes for the reformed teenagers built up one by one. We can see God’s blessing on them and His kingdom spreading. Though there are moments of despair and inadequacy, but she turned to God and His help never stop to come to her.

film

I went to see an irish film last night with friends. Before that we had dinner in a small restaurant. We had bo zai fan with oyster cake but no beers. Tung choi is now available. It is served with peppers and fermented bean curds. Then we had a little walk in Temple street. Nearly bought some Huang Mei Diao but abandoned the thought as it is so old-fashioned. I woundn't have the patience to finish it. Then we come across a Pa Tei Panda which is very cute but again I was successful in refraining myself from buying. Haha.... I can try to draw one now.

regeneration

A ~60 year woman come in. Her hand was amputed at her 30's. No operation was done at that time. To my amazement, the amputated end showed some signs of regeneration. There is tiny bit of finger nail on each finger tip that was cut down to the proximal phalanx at least! So the cells at the broken end is able to transform due to the injury. So is it possible there is some chemical in the body when applied to the amputated part the body, the part just regenerate like the broken end of tree and a new branch can be formed? Sounds like science ficiton.

St. Francis' Prayer

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;

where there is hatred,
let me sow love;

where there is injury,
pardon;

where there is doubt,
faith;

where there is darkness,
light,

and where there is sadness,
joy.

Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;

to be understood as to understand;

to be loved as to love;

for it is in giving that we receive;

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned

and

in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

witnessed betrayal

She was betrayed by her husband,
sitting there in the side room,
her guiltiful husband beside her,
her angry eyes full of fire whenever she has to face him,
her eyebrows frown together,
tears run down,
I can see the pain torturing her whenever the event was mentioned,
Silence is my only offering.
Dear lord, please let your deliverance flow.

Give thanks

I have a delicious meal cooked by my Aunt Ying who come all the way from Australia. She shall stay till Feb. She's a nice and warm person who likes cooking a lot. This time we have shrimps and Vietnemese Pork. I now know the receipe of Vietnemese Pork. Hope to try it sometimes. I went to my Aunt Lin's home to have dinner. As usual, I took the wrong road and went to Cheung Sha Wan Street instead. However, I got some beautiful dresses there at very low price! Finally, I arrive there at 7pm. We chat along and watch TV. My father was also there. Aunt Lin told me the story so I save a lot time too. She's a good narrator, answering my questions patiently with appropriate repetitions.

Receipe of Vietnemese Pork

1. chop the pork with back of knife
2. soak it with sauce: sugar,salt, yulu and pepper
3. fridge overnight
4. fried the pork
5. serve it with lettuce

Dear Good Lord, Thank you for giving me a break !

rose in my heart

a theme from a tv story in mainland - tear trace (modified)

In my soul's deepest part,
opens a rose,
I use the spring of life,
to water and culture it .
O,rose, the rose of my heart,
Only you last longer than heaven and earth,
stay with me for ever and ever,
stay with me for ever and ever.

In my times of sorrow,
you give me consolation,
In my times of joy,
you light up my life with grace.
O, rose, the rose of my heart,
only you last longer than heaven and earth,
stay with me for ever and ever,
stay with me for ever and ever.

retreat camp

Our church has the retreat this weekend for 3 days. Before going to the camp, I was quite tired and my mind is in a state of conflict. My emotions was not released. Though a lot of kind person show their willingness and lent their ear to me, I just cannot expressed the anguish the I was in fully. Finally God give me 1 hr in total solitude where I faced Him silently and as comfortable as in my bedroom. There I shed my tears in silence and pray for His healing power to recover me from my distressful mind. I felt the peace He give me. In the next 2 days, I hear sermons of the united fellowship in Christ. We pray together for our Lord to guide us in our life. I finally find words to express myself. We worship and share. I particuarly have chance to pray for a sister for her to have the wisdom to give good advice and give enough space for others near her to live as freely as God had designed him to live. And, of course, there is one who pray for me. My prayer is that I can withold humiliation and have tolerance , and also , to have the courage to give out good advice.

Sharing a serving experience

In early November this year, I joined the Medical Service International with my colleques to give teaching to doctors in Heqing, Yunnan. We hope that through our service, the standard of local medical care will be improved and most of all, we shall have interaction with the people there and through us, they can feel God's love. I learnt about the plan early this year when I saw circulars of Christian fellowship in the hospital. There were brothers and sisters of our department who had went there and shared their experience in the circular. I felt that I had the gift that can be used too. In the process of preparing, there were times when I felt quite anxious. I was afraid of giving speech in front of big audience and my experience in trauma management was indeed very limited. I've heard that the life of local people were harsh and hot water may not be available at night. But on our inadequacy, God's power is manifested. The experience turned out to a blessing to my life. When we arrived at the airport, we were welcomed by the fresh autumn breeze, the land was surrounded by mountains in different tones of colors made by the setting sun. Silke, the wife of Ekehard come to guide us. They were a couple from Germany who was devoted to serve the people of Yunnan. She brought us to the hotel to settle down. Although the hotel was very small, but everything was available. The best was that 24 hr warm water supply was availale. I need not worry about having to have cold water showers. Once I entered the room, I saw a brunch of flowers with welcoming cards prepared by Ekehard and Silke. They were really very thoughtful. The next day we spent on preparation. We prayed together that God would equip us to finish the task He entrusted us to do. Eckehard introduced the general background of the town to us. Heqing was situated on a plateau of 2200m. Apart from the Hans, there were many minority groups like the PaiZhu and ChangZhu. Cultural conflict was expected. The good thing was that all can communicate in Putonghua. Eckehard and Silke had been there for 5 years. The infrastructure of the town was improving over the years. Many mountain people got fresh water supply. Some of them become shepherds. The next project MSI was planning was to get sheep experts to help them solve out problems in sheep raising. There were many shops in town, the roads were built very straight. Twice a week the people would gather in the market place, the mountain dwellers would bring fruit, silver embroideries and some handicrafts to sell. There were also orchid markets where the orchids could  be sold at very high prices. It seemed that the local people's living standard was raising. One of the thing we prayed was that they would realize their spritual needs and come back to the Lord who is the only One who shall ultimately fulfill their life. The hospital we went this time is very near the hotel, only 5 minutes walk would take us there. There were specialties of medicine, surgery, ENT and trauma. 2 dispensaries, one giving western medicine and one giving chinese medicine. They are in service. On the second floor was the lecture room and the operating theatre. However, cleaning facility like wash basins, rubbish bin and toilets were not easily accessible. The wards were separted from the consultation area. The following 4 days we began the teaching. The students were from the towns and villages all over Yunnan. Many of them were experienced doctors in surgery and orthopaedics. They payed a lot of attention in classes and raised questions. There were two local doctors who had joined the course in the past. They began to teach this time. The enthuisiasm of these doctors really impressed me. In the afternoon, some doctors had the chance to stay and learn practical procedures like intubation, chest drain and establishing intravenous access. They also had scenarios where they can practice what they had just learnt. Many of the students expressed interest in the new learning method. They felt more confident when they face real patients next time. Through the process of teaching, I also learnt a lot. I tried to observe and listen to the response of the student. As I go along, my anxiety decreased. The 4 days of teaching finished very soon. During the nights, we gathered in Echehard's home for fellowship, we shared our feelings and opinions and enjoyed the delicious food prepared by Silke. Clara and Samuel, their two kids, played with us. I still remember the huge Guinea pig Samuel kept. I wonder how he feed it to make it so big. Clara played piano to us. I was amazed that she can play the concerto of Huang He. The six days ended very soon and I was back to Hong kong for nearly a month now. The memory is still fresh. I find that my trust in God is growing and my life is enriching as He had promised.
